Activity Book

Booking platform for exceptional experiences

About ActivityBook

ActivityBook is an application that allows activity seekers to find unique activities and experiences hosted by qualified activity providers, who are rated and reviewed by other users. The app exhaustively facilitates the process, from tailored choices to payment and easy yet monitored communication. ActivityBook also acts as a platform that enables the talented professionals or amateurs with the required qualifications to become providers and turn their skills and interests into fruitful occupations.

‍

Problem

Individual activity seekers often struggle to find unique and interesting activities that match their preferences and interests. Existing solutions in the market are limited and do not always provide a comprehensive list of activities or reliable reviews from other users. Additionally, corporates and startups always need to hold team building activities but People & Culture teams face the problem of not knowing where to search for or compare between activities suitable for large number of employees of different age range. Lastly, talented professionals and amateurs with specific skills and interests may not have a platform to monetize their expertise and turn it into a profitable occupation.

Solution

ActivityBook aims to solve these problems by providing a mobile application that allows users to easily discover and book unique activities and experiences hosted by qualified providers. The app offers tailored choices, reliable reviews, easy payments, and monitored communication with the activity providers. AB has a variety of tremendous, different activities that should be fitting for individuals, small groups or even a whole company or startup. In addition, ActivityBook provides a platform for talented professionals and amateurs to become "Qualified Activity Providers" and monetize their skills and interests while offering users a wider range of activities to choose from.

‍

The Challenge

Designing the experience of AB had multiple challenges as there were various cases that should be covered in the flow in order to deliver an intuitive and easy-to-use interface. Booking the experience was a primary challenge because of the different booking restrictions for each activity provider.
‍
The activity details had too much information that should be presented to the users, that they should know prior to booking. In addition to, recommending more activities like this activity opened (Alikes).
‍
Clustering the activities in the homepage and visualizing the categories in both the homepage and activity details page to facilitate browsing task.

Checkout

There was a variety of booking cases and conditions for each activity provider that needed to be handled in the design. As some activities have only 1 guest/period so if the user is going to book for 2 or more gustes, they should select 2 or more different periods(slots). Other activites only have a maximum number of seats(guests) and the user can select one or more period. Periods(slots) are updated according to the chosen date. Lastly, these conditions change whether it's online, at home or on-site activity.

Information Architecture

Grouping the multiple types of activities and creating new types of groups either than categories, recommended for you, by place... like the collections, where the a bunch of activities are clustered together under a collection that is related to something like weekend activities for example TGIF (Thanks God it's Friday). In addition to, the userflow of booking, rating and searching for acitivities

Gamified Providers' Application form

As mentioned above ActivityBook is a platform that connect activity seekers to qualified activity providers. So, there is a form that providers need to fill and submit to apply as a qualified acitivity provider authorized by AB. This form had to be engaging and includes gamification layer to incentify the activity providers to apply and submit

Energetic Style

According to the branding (as will be mentioned below) the brand as a person should be energetic and fun. This should be applied in the UI style and the content

‍

My Role

As an interaction designer, I was responsible for creating the user flows, wireframes, and UI mockups for the ActivityBook project. My main goal was to design an intuitive and user-friendly interface that provided an enjoyable user experience and met the business and user needs. I collaborated with business owners and stakeholders to ensure the product was designed to the highest standard and met the project requirements.

‍

Also, I acted as a brand designer (which is not my main role), I was responsible for creating the visual identity of the brand, from the logo to the color palette.

The Brand

This is the brand manual made for ActivityBook by the branding agency and not by me. My role in ActivityBook was more interaction design than product design

Target Audience and User Profiles

‍
Primary User Profiles

The potential Activity Book users are mainly males and females, ranging from 18 to 35 years old, and have the purchasing power that allows them to try and experience new things.
They are active individuals with a wide range of interests and are constantly trying new activities that are not necessarily within their comfort zone or usual routine. Being open to trying new things makes them act as opinion leaders in their social circles. They are always up to date with the new activities and new experiences offered, from the opening of the latest food stops to maybe horse riding academies or kitesurfing courses - anything that suits their interests.
We will focus primarily on this target group as it will help us have ambassadors, spilling over to their families and friends to reach bigger and more inclusive circles through word of mouth and recommendations.
‍

‍

Secondary User Profiles

The secondary target group will mainly be attracted through the primary target audience. However, those who have it in them to try new things and engage in activities, however, they have some pain points that stand between them and actually go for it. For example, being extra cautious when it comes to safety measures, wanting someone to give them a ready plan that would make their lives easier, or just aren’t that concerned and would wait for an ad to pop up for them to consider the activity.
When it comes to deciding they always rely on personal experiences and reviews from their friends and family. They always need someone to push them and motivate them to take this extra step.
